A not so blissful morning Tumblr_n71ey5QlYh1qgtes2o1_500

He doesn't know how much time he spent walking the roads of Elm Town, looking for a good place to rest, but the night is slowly coming to an end. Most of the town is thoroughly destroyed so his search is a bit more difficult than he first anticipated. The divine woman in his arms didn't yet stir from her slumber but he isn't worried about it as he can feel her chest faintly rising against his own, a sign of her still breathing. There's a part of him that feels giddy about holding such a pure creature this closely. If it weren't for the fact that he needs to look for a proper housing, Mathias feels like his stare wouldn't leave her face, to admire her sleeping figure.

When he finds the perfect place, the morning sun is already starting to rise from the horizon. The Priest is relieved that the night is ending, as it means there will be fewer enemies encounters. Mathias actually prefers resting the day so he can hunt at night.

The house he chooses is quite small and hidden between two bigger houses. There are remains of what should have been a garden surrounding the front door. He barely notices it as he walks confidently to the wooden door. His arms busy holding the winged maiden, he simply explodes the front door with his foot. Two kicks are enough to create a hole big enough for him to enter. He needs to lower his head but besides that, the Angel's wings fit through the hole, which was his only concern when entering.

The first room is the kitchen, which is pretty much empty, save for a decent wooden table and chairs. They are pretty dusty, which shows how much time it stayed inhabited. He walks further inside and finds a narrow staircase. He doesn't climb it as it's too narrow for the lady's wings and he's afraid they could bump into the walls. He prefers staying on the first floor. Unfortunately, there's no bedroom on the first floor and the couch he finds is too small for him to lay the winged lady on. Reluctantly, he settles the woman on the floor, kneeling to place her comfortably on her side to avoid crushing the wings. He stands back up when he finish placing her on the wooden floor. It's temporary, he thinks, as his eyes find the stairs once more. He climbs them quickly, in search of a bedroom. He finds a bathroom in a somewhat good condition, but he doesn't waste his time checking if the water works. He opens another door and finds a nursery. There's a giant hole in the wall and he doesn't need to see the past to understand what went down in this room.
At some point, when the Apocalypse started, children but mostly babies were the first to disappear in the night. It took a while before humans started realizing that they weren't safe in their home and sought protection from the Churches. Mathias avoids looking at the crib and leaves the room, firmly closing the door behind him.

He walks to the last door but when he tries to open it, it's locked. He frowns and, without hesitation, force the door open with his elbow. The wooden door's hinges breaks and the door swoop open. He enters the room and immediately a putrid smell assault his nostrils.
It's the odor of death. Mathias is used to the smell so he doesn't even attempt covering his nose. He only walks in, looking for a body. The bed is cleanly made, which relieves him because he can use the mattress alongside the pillows and covers. He doesn't take them yet, his eyes still searching for a body.

He sniffs the air and the horrid smell leads him to the closet. He opens it delicately and finds the culprit of the smell; Two corpses holding hands inside, barely hidden behind neatly arranged clothes. The Priest stare finds the rusty pistol in the man's hand alongside a Bible.
He takes the time to mutter prayers for their poor souls before closing the closet.

When he goes down the stairs, it's with a clean mattress under an arm and a white pillow under the other. He's holding a blanket in one of his hand.

Mathias takes the time to push the couch away along with the other furnitures before laying down the mattress. He then proceeds to lay down the Angel on the mattress, on her stomach. He wraps her in blankets, in a way for her wings to stay unrestrained but still a bit covered in the blankets to keep her warm.

He then sits in the kitchen, one eye remaining fixed on the Angel. He rubs his eyes and yawn, but stay alert.

After all, people died in this house, which means their souls are still around. They could come out at any time, he needs to stay vigilant so he can protect her.

_________________

It's around noon when the winged maiden start stirring in her sleep. Mathias doesn't really notice it, however, as his eyes are closed but he isn't sleeping despite what it looks like. He's simply resting his tired eyes.

You are a disgrace to our kind.
I forbid you from leaving heaven.
You are to be an Arch Angel.
This fantasy needs to stop.
You cannot save them.

I will never give up.
Peace must come back to humanity.
These shadows will rest once more.
For they have not all sin.
Everyone deserves a chance to live.

In her dreams, she found herself back into her old life. A girl was sitting with her youngest sibling watching her dad and brother working on the farm. She felt her sister poke her and ran away from her. Mary was her sister name, she remembers going and chasing the girl through the fields. The earth was a little mushy from the recent rain. Her sister giggles echo around her as she chases her throughout to the forest near by their home. She lost sight of her sister and had worried confused her body. A fear took over her body as she spins around and shouted her sister name over and over again.

"Mary, Mary, where are you?"

She heard a scream just near the pond in the forest and that is all it took for her to take off toward the pond. She saw a   demon advancing on her little sister. They could not let her sister die this way. She lightly grabbed the tree branch that had fallen from a giant oak tree. She wack the demon in its back and attracted it to attack her. Her hands clutch the oak branch tightly in her hand as she kept hitting the demon as it came closer to her.

"Go Mary."

The little girl got up and ran away out of the forest which made her sigh with relief that her sister was safe. She knew that she will die in the hands of a demon, but her sister will live on. She hopes she could see her family one more time before her death. The demon did not make it close enough that she felt something hit thing demon. A bright light arrow had shot the demon in the head. Someone had jumped in front of her. He had long bright blonde hair and wings that spread from his back.

The angel before had a glowing gold sword that was now piercing the demon as the blood coated the sword. He pulled the sword out of the demon and wipe it with a cloth before turning to the girl. He had bright gold eyes that shine like the heaven's gate and bright the stars in the night sky. He was a beautiful sight to behold as she felt her face slightly turned red at the attractive angel that stood before her. He held his hand out to her and without hesitation she put her small pale hands into his.

“Child, you have shown sacrifice in a time where men only show greed. A person with such a pure heart. A creature such as yourself should never fall from such a corruption."

The angel before her gently pats her hand before disappearing into a bright light that she had to closed her eyes from the brightness. Her hand had fallen to her side as the light succeeded away into nothingness. Her eyes open to see the angel was gone.  She heard yelling as her father ran over to her and bend down to check his middle child was safe. He notices the demon body dead on the ground. He thanked God that is a child was safe.

"It was a blessing that my child was safe."

Several years passed before the young girl became women, She had dedicated herself to God as she knew he sends the angel to save her. Mercy had become a beautiful young woman with a passion for healing. She took a job as a lady to help heal wounds that villager gone in her small village that she lived in.She did not married which was seen as odd, but she was someone to was married to her work. She notices that nights were getting dangers as demon seems to cause more trouble in the forest.

"An angel without her wings will give her life to protect those she love."

She was gathering herbs near the forest when she notices that something was wrong. There was a pile of dead men laying on the ground. It was the guards that kept the village safe. There were demons eating the bodies as the bones crunch. She listens closely as they begin to whisper things to each other.

"The village is next."

"I want to eat a child."

"A baby would be better."

"I like the taste of a virgin women."

A feeling of unease swept over her as she dashes to the village to send a warning to the others. She tried to warn the village who doubted her at first, but it was getting dark as it was a full eclipse day. They knew that the gates of hell were closed. She tried to defend herself that she saw the dead bodies are the guards. No one listens to her , so she knew best thing was at least safe her family from the fate. She knew wanted to save everyone , but these people always saw her as a crazy lady from the story of an angel saving her.

"Please, you have to listen to me."

She whispers as people just went into their homes feeling that they were safe that way. Mercy had to walk away and head to the farm that her parent own. Her parent was very religious and believe that an angel did safely her. They were always prepared as they notice that people were being killed from something. She prays for the village to be safe from the oncoming demons and hopes that God will have mercy will their souls. She walked the dirt path to her farm where she notices blood smeared the crops.

"May God be with you."

When she got to the fields, she notices the corpse of her father and brother ripped apart and blood pooling around him. She felt tears dropped her face as she ran to inside the house and notice it was empty from every body but blood was everywhere. She heard noises from the barn, so she saw blood on the floor looking like someone was dragged outside the back. She followed outside to the barn that was wide open. Dead animals were everywhere as the demon had killed the animals on the small farm. She stepped around the dead corpses of the animal to the farm. What she saw made her break down as sob escape her lips.

"Ah!"

There was her mother, sister in law, and sister died on the ground will blood covering their corpses as someone stood over them. Her baby niece was being consumed by a demon as it ripped the flesh of the dead baby. It stopped as it notices the young women standing there. It dropped the baby corpse and stepped closer to her. She backed up but was stopped from behind by another demon. She was not going down without a fight as she pushed behind her hard enough to make the demon fall down.

"Die Demon!"

Her hands went to the pitchfork that was in her dead mother hand as well the cross in her hand. She was fast as she shoves the fork into the demon which pins it to the ground. It was trying hard to remove the pitch fork from its body. She was caught off guard as the other demon had slashed her as she turned around and pushed her against the barn door. her hands go to the wound as she slides onto the floor. I walked in front of her and all she could do was throw the cross at it hoping it injure it.

"You are mine now."

________________

Her eyes open as she almost let out scream escape her mouth. She covered her mouth as she shot up from the bed. Her whole body was covered her sweat and heavy pants left her lips instead of the scream. She looked around to notice she was on a mattress in a house. She removed the blanket from her body as she tried to take deep breaths. Her nerve was on edge from the nightmare. She rubbed her eyes as she stood up from the bed to observe around herself. She notices that it was a dusty old house that must have been through a lot as some things smashed. Her eyes wander more until she notices that the priest was asleep on a chair. She notices that he was covered in dried blood and looked peaceful in his sleep.

My past haunts me.

Not wanting to wait up the sleeping priest, she decided the best thing to do was to wake for him to wait up. She moves her wounded wing closed to her to observe if it needed to be clean from the blood. Her hands run along the now healed wound as she begins to pluck any feathers that were too badly damaged. They would not be able to heal, so she will need to grow new feathers which were painful in itself. She cringes from each damage feather she plucked.

It took her a few minute before she had removed all the feathers that she wanted before she heard stirring from the priest.

"Good afternoon."

The angel was covered in the afternoon light as it made her glow lightly. She had looked up from the ripped bloody feathers that were resting on her lap. Her light grey wings were resting against her body.

A not so blissful morning 92ae17bc7064e094b4342ef7244e3bd81c16333e_hq

Mathias didn't notice that he was slowly but firmly losing his battle with the Sandman, his mind exhausted from the lack of sleep. His body is stirring uncomfortably on the wooden chair because of his awkward sitting position, with both his legs and arms firmly crossed, in what would be a defensive stance, while his head staring down.

"Good afternoon."

He jerks awake immediately when he hears the female voice and raises his head to look at her. She's sitting in all her glory on the white mattress, the soft glow of the afternoon surrounding her from behind the uncovered windows and creating a crown of light around her. Mathias uncrosses his arms and legs, staring dumbly at her with a gaping mouth. He shakes his head when he remembers that she spoke to him and answers back, with a smile wanting to be pleasant but only come out awkward on his lips;

''Good afternoon, your Holiness. Was your rest comfortable ?''

He stands up for a short time to kneel in front of her, in a way to not look down upon her.
He lowers his head and stares at her lap. That's when he notices the plucked feathers all around her. He gasps in panic and lifts his head to stare into her eyes.

''Your Holiness, is everything alright? Do you need to be healed once again ?''

He's already fishing inside his coat, to get his Holy book from an inside pocket. He thumbs through page after page for a healing spell, frowning in clear worry.

A not so blissful morning Bampw-boy-broken-broken-heart-Favim.com-887068

Mercy smiled at him as she watched as eyes open and looked over to her. She notice has his mouth gap at her which she wonders why until she notices the sun had been caught upon her. This was a normal thing for the angel in Heaven to glow when the light touch them. His smile looked awkward, but she did not mind as she smiled went wider.

''Good afternoon, your Holiness. Was your rest comfortable ?''

She nodded her head as she still felt a little sad though as the dream haunted her mind. Mercy did not want to trouble him with her past. The past was in the past and did not solve itself if she lingers to it. So, she pushed it back as she looked down at the feathers that she had to pluck.

"I slept well and comfortable. No need to worry. Us angels are tough."

She looked up at him, and her smile dropped when he notices that she had plucked her feathers. Panic was on his face as she tried to come up with something to say to him. The feathers were damaged and unrepairable, so she needed to remove them.

''Your Holiness, is everything alright? Do you need to be healed once again ?''

Mercy had grabbed the feathers as they glowed and evaporate into the air as if they were never there, to begin with. She had gotten up and spread her wings to show him that it was completely healed. She lightly flapped them to show that no pain was going through it as well.

"My winged is all heal. Thank you for saving me without you, I would have been in deep trouble."

She raises her hand to interrupt him from looking through the holy book. She notices that he was too focused on the book to notice she had shown him that her wings were just fine. The angel gave a gentle smile before stretching her wings out for a moment before letting them fold back against her back.

"The feathers would not be able to heal properly anyways."

A not so blissful morning QWTdbZZ

"I slept well and comfortable. No need to worry. Us angels are tough."

He raises his head temporarily to smiles warmly at her, fingers pausing in their search for an appropriate prayer inside the thick book. His smile may be well intended, but it's still very awkward, too big on his face, making him look creepy.

''I am relieved to hear this. I was worried about your comfort.''

He heads back into his book, eyes shifting from right to left to read each passage on each page. Mathias completely misses how she tries to show him her healed wings, too focused on his task. He seems to finally find what he was searching for but the Angel interrupt him before it can leave his lips;

"My winged is all heal. Thank you for saving me without you, I would have been in deep trouble."

He closes his book in a swift movement. He's not angry, despite the rough sound the book made when closing, he's simply embarrassed. Being thanked by a celestial being is quite an honor, after all. It's the second time she thanked him, too. He scratches the back of his head with one hand while putting away his book with the other. He's lightly blushing,
a small tinge. He avoids looking directly at her as he speaks;

''Like I already said, I do not need your gratitude, it is my duty.''

He's still clearly happy to be thanked again, despite what he says. His attention is back on her as her wings fold neatly in her back. They are quite fascinating so he stares at them a bit too long, enough to make the lady fidget in discomfort.  He shakes his head when he sees her uneasiness and clears his throat awkwardly before standing up. His legs crack loudly at his sudden movement but he doesn't seem to mind as he put some distance between her and him. He walks to the kitchen sink and the first thing he does is opening the kitchen's faucet. He whistles in surprise when he sees the murky water coming out of it. He closes it and turns his head towards her. He may be more covered in blood than her,
but her needs are more important than his own. He smiles at her and offer to her;

''Your Holiness, there seems to be running water in this house. Do you wish to clean yourself? There's a bathroom upstairs.''

She agrees almost immediately. He's relieved as he thought that maybe she wouldn't trust him enough for her to undress in a house with only the both of them. But, he thinks as voices whisper their sinful spiel once again in the back of his mind, he's not sure if he should be relieved at the trust she places in him...

They climb the stairs together, Mathias in front to make sure that nothing could happen to her. He shows her the bathroom and let her start filling the bathtub. He doesn't leave the room yet, carefully pouring blessing salts in front of the bathtub. Mathias only tells her as he scatters the salt across the floor;

''To be certain that nothing can reach you inside.'' His voice is cheerful but his smile is unsettling. She cannot see his turquoise eyes too, hidden behind her own reflection in his glasses.

He doesn't explain himself further and leaves the room the minute the bath is completely filled and ready to be used. He closes the door behind him and stays right in front of it, standing tall in the hallway.

He stops smiling the minute the door is closed. As long as he's concerned, she doesn't need to be aware of the former residents of this house. He keeps an ear out to listen to each and every sound around him.

________________

He listen to the Angel singing in the bathroom, her melodious voice filling the otherwise silence. Mathias feels like his entire soul is attracted to the sound of her song. Once again he feels immensely blessed. It's been such a while since he felt this good outside of hunting.

When the singing is stopped mid-sentence, he feels immediately that something is wrong.
Then there's a distorted scream from the bathroom and he doesn't hesitate before knocking it down.

Right from the wall is the translucent silhouette of a woman. Her image is distorted, not quite looking like the former human she was. Her eyes are sunk into her skull and her mouth is stretched unnaturally. Her hair is flowing around her as if they have a mind of their own and on the side of her face, right at the temple, there's an ugly wound with transparent blood pouring out of it. It's a disgusting view, for sure.

It's the spirit who is screaming, her thin arms searching to grab the angel sitting in the bathtub.

She's about to reach the surprised angel when a barrier appears around the bathtub, where the salt was poured. It's rejecting the spirit from coming closer to the angel and protecting the sacred being. A long blade is then thrown into the spirit's skull, crushing her into the wall away from the angel. It doesn't seem to have affected the spirit, besides pinning her to the wall, but she screams in pain anyway. The Priest doesn't waste much time, letting go of his blade's shoved firmly into the wall to fishes out blessing salt from his coat. He immediately throws some at her but the spirit dodges it by melting into the wall she was pinned on.

There's a second scream coming from another part of the house, but it's far away from the bathroom. Mathias pulls his blade from the wall in a swift move. Unwillingly, his eyes find the naked body of the angel, barely hidden inside the murky water. His eyes follow the contour of her breasts for a split of seconds, enough time for Mercy to notice the perverse glint in the Priest's eyes before his entire body turns away to leave the room. The bathroom door is closed loudly behind him.

The hunt has begun and that's all he can think about at the moment as he climbs down the stairs to find the spirits.

Mercy had followed him to the bathroom. It was dusty from the years it has been abandoned. She watches as the salts were poured across the tub and around the floor. That was not going keep a spirit out for long, she could sense it lingering around in the room next door. She knew she could have to cleanse her but for now, she was going take a nice bath. She did draw herself a bath as he was doing so, she never felt water in a very long time. It felt so soothing against her dirty skin. A genuine smile was on her face as she ran her hands in the water before the tub was half way full. Her hands were now out of the water as she turned to see the priest was now at the door.

''To be certain that nothing can reach you inside.''

His smile was not of someone who was happy. It looked fake to her which she tried looked into his eyes, but they were hidden behind his glasses. She just nodded her hand to him and watched the door closed. She hummed as she removed her white dress and enter the bath. She started to bathe her body with the old soap that was on the side of the tub. A song burst from her lips while she was cleaning her self. It was a song that she was taught by her mother when she used to have nightmares

"Lay down your head and I'll sing you a lullaby
Back to the years of loo-li lai-lay
And I'll sing you to sleep and I'll sing you tomorrow
Bless you with love for the road that you go

May you sail far to the far fields of fort-"

Mercy stopped as she notices the female spirit staring at her. The way she looked was haunting with her shadows consuming her eyes. It looked like they have sunken into her very unnatural pale skin. She knew she had to cleanse this spirit. The sadness and torture glowed from the spirit. The female spirit begins to scream because the angel had begun to glow a bright goldish color instead of her usual white color. To her, she saw the wound that was probably causing the pain of the grotesque death. The spirit was walking over to her as it was screaming and trying to get near the tub.

The door was knock down which made the women stopped and looked over at the priest who had a crazed looked on her face. It sends a chill down the angel back to see someone so willing to kill. She was about to get out of the bathtub when she stops noticing the lady trying to get near the bathtub again. A barrier had consumed around her from the effect of the salts. The spirit was not giving up until a sword was thrust at its skull.

The spirit had taken off by disappearing in another room. She could sense it in the room across the hall. She watched as he went to grabbed his sword and looked at her body. A blush covered her face as she looked away from him trying to use her powers to lightly teleport over to the spirit.

She got up and grabbed her dressed as she forced it down her body before teleporting into the room where the spirit had taken place. It was in a closet that she could not get in ,so the best option was the sing the spirit out the closet. she had closed her eyes as she moved lightly started to hummed against.

Her hands go to her necklace that she always had in her hands when she wanted to cleanse. Her voice was a soft melody that echoes around them as light orbs came from her feathers and surrounded the spirit and her. The spirit tried to leave but was trapped by the orbs.  A bright gold light had consumed, and her body started to lightly float off the ground.

"I hear your voice on the wind
And I hear you call out my name

Her voice echoes around as the spirit had now open the door as it was sort of in a trance. It watched as she sang and brought back memories of happiness to the ghost.

"Listen, my child," you say to me
"I am the voice of your history
Be not afraid, come follow me
Answer my call, and I'll set you free"

She stopped floating as she walked over to the spirit with her eyes still closed. Her other hand was twirling as the orbs around them begin to twirl around as it followed her moves.

I am the voice in the wind and the pouring rain
I am the voice of your hunger and pain
I am the voice that always is calling you
I am the voice, I will remain

The orbs were now hovering around and had gotten close enough that wings were easier to see that they too were glowing.

I am the voice in the fields when the summer's gone
The dance of the leaves when the autumn winds blow
Ne'er do I sleep throughout all the cold winter long
I am the force that in springtime will grow

The orbs begin to closed upon them as it got closer the more it started to glowed together.

I am the voice of the past that will always be
Filled with my sorrow and blood in my fields
I am the voice of the future, bring me your peace
Bring me your peace, and my wounds, they will heal

The angel had moved both her hand up as the orbs went up before going down onto the ghost.

I am the voice in the wind and the pouring rain
I am the voice of your hunger and pain
I am the voice that always is calling you
I am the voice

The orbs covered the ghost before disappear to reveal that the ghost was now healed and looked normal.

I am the voice of the past that will always be
I am the voice of your hunger and pain
I am the voice of the future
I am the voice, I am the voice
I am the voice, I am the voice"

Mercy eyes open as she releases her hands with the orbs now disappearing back into her wings. She smiled brightly and hold her hands out for the ghost to hug her. The ghost lady was now crying tears as it ran over to her but stopped because holy water was now drenching the ghost who was now screaming in pain before it disappears from her sight.

"NO!"

Something just snapped as the angel slapped him before yelling at him. Anger fumed from the angel as her wing flapped violently. Her whole body was shaking as she clenching her teeth.

"Thug Dia dom an chumhacht seo chun anam a leigheas. Ghlac tú as sin uaidh. Anam a leigheas ón pian agus ag fulaingt ... Níl mé ag iarraidh Muinín duit, sagart.."

(God gave me this power to heal her soul. You have taken that away from her. A soul that heal from the pain and suffering.... I do not want to trust you, priest.)

Mercy turned around before storming down the hallway and walking down the stairs to the door. She hesitated on wanting to leave. It was not a good choice. A sob escapes her lips as tears dripped down her face. Her hands go to her face to wipe the tears away.

"Athair, is theip orm mar iníon."

(Father, I am a failure as a daughter.)

A not so blissful morning Z5Dp6xK

Now downstairs, he's searching for the spirit he saw on the second floor. He knows the screech came from here, but no matter where he looks, he doesn't see any spirits. He grinds his teeth together in irritation. He needs to get rid of the spirits before they come back for the poor angel upstairs. Spirits are far from harmless creatures, no matter who they were before they died. No matter how much he pities them or prays for their poor souls, they will be suffering forever on this side and will turn their pain towards the living, in a way to take it out on those lucky enough to be still alive. They may not be able to harm anyone physically, but their hatred curses anyone that had the misfortune to cross their path and makes the victims of their anger die an agonizing death that they will relive in the afterlife themselves. It's a vicious circle that people like him have to break by exorcising their souls. If these spirits were in their right mind, they would be grateful. It's for the sake of the living. It's also his duty as a Priest, as an agent of the Lord, to exterminate anything that could be potentially dangerous for mankind. No matter the price.

Having no lucks finding the woman downstairs, he begins climbing back upstairs. Before even finishing climbing his way up, he hears a beautiful voice chanting. He frowns in worry as he realizes that the singing doesn't come from the bathroom. He sprints in the voice's direction, his cross swinging wildly on his chest in the same rhythm that his heart is beating. He feels like his chest is going to explode.

What if he's too late? Curses don't take long to establish. The spirit only needs to touch in any way the person it wants to curse and no Priest can expel it. He knows; He tried. Each time, no matter how many prayers he sends to the Lord, no matter how many spells he uttered to lessen the curse, no matter his efforts or the tears he shed, his efforts were completely pointless. There's no cure for this kind of curse, no salvation.

He arrives in front of the bedroom and thankfully because he has broken the door earlier,
it's quite easy now to enter. The sight that welcomes him shock him;

The winged woman is shining bright with orbs surrounding her. The angel's wings are open wide, glowing in the room with that same glow that illuminates the orbs and she's floating. There's something inside of him that tells him he shouldn't be interfering and he notices the spirit has taken a less horrible appearance. Like healed from their cursed existence. The orbs disappear into the wings like they never existed to begin with, like Mathias dreamed them, and Mercy smiles kindly towards the spirit who is crying warm tears. The angel opens her arms wide towards it and that's when Mathias loses it.

Curses start by direct contact with the spirits his mind supplies frantically.

Before they can come into contact with each other, the Priest sprays the spirit with holy water. The woman starts melting immediately, her screams sounding hollows. He doesn't react when the angel screams in denial.

Only when he feels his cheek being slapped that he focus his attention back to her. She's speaking- no, screaming at him in a language he doesn't quite understand. He blinks in confusion. She seems very angry at him and he opens his mouth to says something back, but he quickly shuts it down.

He understands why she's acting like that; It's hard for anyone at first. This world is far from Heaven, out of their Lord's grasp, of course she'll end up confused. Saving souls had always been the Lord's duty, so she doesn't understand how much of a lost cause it is. It had been hard for him too, at first. Accepting takes time. She was simply unaware of the danger she put herself in.

Before he can talk to her, she's out the door and he can hear the sound of her feet as she's going down the stairs.

It's better this way, he thinks as he sees from the corner of his eyes the second spirit coming out of the wall of the closet. Possibly attracted by the screaming of his once lover. He's in the same pitiful state than his wife was before she was cleansed by Mercy, with a hole in the head dripping translucent blood.

''Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust. We are nothing, but dust and to dust we shall return. Amen.'' He recites madly as he exorcises the spirit with holy water.

The man's scream of agony can be heard even downstairs, possibly alerting the angel of the demise of another poor soul.

When he's going down the stairs, he immediately sees the angel's hand on the door's knob of the front door. Mathias feels the panic coursing his veins as he runs to her.

His hands grasp firmly her shoulders from behind before he turns her around forcefully, so he can stare into her eyes. Because of their difference in height, he's looming over her, casting a shadow over her entire body. The Priest has a crazy look on his face, a mix between desperation and something else.

''It's okay, your Holiness, it's presumptuous of me to says something like that, but I understand perfectly what you are living through at the moment !''

He begins, with an upside down smile(basically a frown).

''It's perfectly normal for us to feel remorseful towards these poor souls and to seek to save them !''

His hold on her shoulders gets stronger, painful.

''These spirits are now cursed beings and the only thing we can do to save them is to exorcise them. It's for the greater good, in order to prevent them from bringing others in their misery. It's what they would want-

He begins to tear up so he let go of her shoulders, gloved hands covering his entire face to hide the thick tears falling down. His shoulders are trembling and a sob comes out of his lips as he continues;

and what the Lord expects of us.''

He wipes his tears forcefully and looks again at her. He smiles despite his teary eyes and asks her;

''Your Holiness, were you finished with the bathroom? I believe I need a good wash myself to rub the blood off my face.''

Her eyes looked up at him as his hands were now on her shall shoulders. He towers over her already pretty small frame. He had a crazy looked on his face that made her felt like she wanted to wince but she a frame from doing so. Her eyes looked away from him while he spoke to her. She felt more relaxed around him for some reason did not know.

''It's okay, your Holiness, it's presumptuous of me to says something like that, but I understand perfectly what you are living through at the moment !''

Her small soft hand went to his hand finding touching him with her hand. It was soft and warm as the light that was inside her constantly burn with the passion of the angel need to save humanity. Her eyes were no longer crying as she stares into his. Her eyes were truly beautiful as they were light on the edges and lighter in the middle. A little yellow circle around her pupil cutting off the blood from the black.

"It's perfectly normal for us to feel remorseful towards these poor souls and to seek to save them !''

She watches him frown, but she shakes her head as she removes her hand from him before looking down at them. They lightly glow underneath her skin. She whispers something under her breath with other hand going to her cross around her neck.

"What am I if I am not the angel of mercy herself."

She clutches onto her cross that was the last thing she got from her mother before trying not to cry again thinking of her dead family.

''These spirits are now cursed beings and the only thing we can do to save them is to exorcise them. It's for the greater good, in order to prevent them from bringing others in their misery. It's what they would want-

Her body shakes a little from what the others have done. They have forsaken these souls to become corrupted and knows they could not go to heaven made her feel like a failure to them. It was her job to save these solves, and she could not.

and what the Lord expects of us."

She lets go of her cross and looked back up to see him to had been crying as he wiped the tears from his face.

''Your Holiness, were you finished with the bathroom? I believe I need a good wash myself to rub the blood off my face.''

She nodded her head at him as she responded to him.

"I am done with the bathroom. I am going go lay down. I think I may of overuse my powers once more."

She waited for him to leave before going over to the mattress and laying on it again. The angel did not put the blanket back on her for she feels that she was warm enough as it is. Her eyes closed to not to sleep, but she was deep in her thoughts when something reminded her of that very day.

_______________

"You are mine!

The girl body was shaking, but she felt her cross in her hands being to glow. It was something unheard of as both the demon and the girl seem confused. It built the confident for her to get up from her position and hold the cross out in front of her.

"I am no ones."

The cross light burns the demon which made it jumped back to avoid the light that brushes past the demon. The cross itself was none other than a holy item. It was tying itself to her from the pureness of her heart that she carried with her. She was no sinner and thus the cross had reacted to her pure nature.

"Die demon for the sins that you had committed against my family."

The light from the cross had taken over the demon as it swallows it up in a flash of light with blast her, and the other demon that still pinned the ground. She notice when the light was over that she was now falling to her knee. She was still bleeding out from the wound. The last thing she saw was a white mass standing over her.

"Shh, sleep my pure child. Soon you will awake. Heaven awaits for you."

Her eyes closed for the last time with the last breath escaping her lips for she had died that day. The moment her eyes reopen she was now in heaven with an angel standing in front of her. He was tall with long blonde hair and bright blue eyes. It was the angel who saves her before.

"Mercy, you have shown such braveness and courage. The pureness of your heart for who your care is the aspiration of an angel. We wished for you to join us."

He held his hands which she immediately took with excitement which made the older gentlemen laugh at her lightly. A light engulf her as she felt the light enter her body and big beautiful white wings sprout from her back. Her wounds have healed but left a scar as she refuses to let it heal.

"A scar is a reminder of what I fought for."

Was all the new angel said when Michael looked at her confused, He smiled at the girl before leading her into the gates of heaven. It was that day she became the Angel of Mercy.

"Fight harder, Mercy."

Sword clashes each other with sparks flying from both sides. The blonde angel which she learned his name was Arch Angel Micheal. She felt blessed to be chosen from such a high ranking angel. He had taken her to be his apprentice for he saw her becoming an arch angel from her passion to protect God's children.

"Yes, sir."

Mercy was an incredibly learner and had done well learning all she needed from her the elder angel. He found her fascinating at her ability to be so dedicated to her work. He himself had felt tired at times, but she kept going no matter how tired she was. A pure child she is and still is.

"You are doing really well."

Her eyes were now open with a sigh escaping her lips. She had spotted that the priest was now back downstairs,
but she did not look over at him. Her eyes were glazed over as she looked out the window to see something black fly away from the window. It was a fallen angel that had been spying on them at the moment. The other angel had familiar to her.

"We are not safe here anymore."

"I am done with the bathroom. I am going go lay down. I think I may of overuse my powers once more."

Mathias clears his throat and nods his head. He wants to ask her about what she did earlier, upstairs, with the spirit, but he isn't sure if he wants to hear it or if she would be ready to tell him, so he drops the subject entirely. He makes his way upstairs but stops mid-way. He looks behind his broad shoulders, throwing a glance in the angel's direction, seemingly wanting to ask her a question, but he hesitates when he sees that she began to make herself comfortable once again on the mattress. Not wanting to disturb her rest, he shrugs it off and his huge frame disappears upstairs.

Now on the upper floor, he makes his way to the bathroom and enters. The door's hinges wince loudly when he closes it behind him, which can have been caused by his harsh entry from earlier. Now inside, Mathias can see that the winged woman had taken off abruptly after the visit from the spirit as the bath is still filled with water. He pulls the plug out and let the water drain before putting it back in when it's emptied completely. He then proceeds to add warm water inside.

As the water is taking its time to fill the tub, he begins to undress. He removes his large coat, hanging it on the door knob when he can't find any hangers. He moves on to his clothes, undoing the buttons of his dark blue shirt before removing it from his shoulders. He folds it neatly before putting it on the toilet's closed lid. Despite having fought Spirits, Demons, and even Vampires earlier, he doesn't have any fresh wound on his chest. However, he has his fair share of scars; His whole upper body is scarred with badly healed cicatrices, all of them seeming coming from serious old wounds. Some of them are surgical but the majority of them are claw marks and bites. On his neck, for example, he has several teeth marks, possibly coming from different Vampires. As he turns his back to the mirror to remove his shoes and pants, the mirror reflects his back where stand out a pretty huge tattoo. The tattoo represents a cross surrounded by large wings made of stone. There are some passages of the Bible written in his lower back, ending right before his ass start. It ends with a wide ''AMEN''. He folds his pants the same way he did to his shirt and places it on top. He settles to put his shoes in front of the bathroom's door, so no water will fall inside of them.

Having removed all his clothes, folded properly his pants and placed his shoes, he enters the bathtub. He sighs contentedly as his skin meets the warm water. His fingers remove his glasses and he places them carefully on top of his clothes. Mathias then let himself sink inside the water and closes his eyes to rest peacefully.

While he's sleeping, the water takes a bloody color.

____________

When he comes back downstairs, the sun is starting to settle. It's going to be dark soon. Mathias feels suddenly a shiver running through his spine and his hands immediately grab his blades inside his coat. He cracks his neck loudly.

"We are not safe here anymore."

From the windows, he can see something with dark wings fly away. For a second he thinks it's a Succubus, but if it were the case, it wouldn't be flying away or behaving this way. He narrows his eyes suspiciously.

Mercy's bright grey eyes stare out the window as the fallen angel fleeted from her sight. She was unwilling sad to see her once a friend had turned into something horrible. Sadness flicker in her eyes for only a second before she looked away from the window. Her body was in high alert mode but went rigid when the other angel presence of darkness had faded away. She got from the mattress quickly before going over to the window. A black feather rested on the front yard of the house. A tainted reminder that they knew that she was here.

"They have been watching us."

The angel watched as the sun begin to set in the sky with the colors turning pink and yellow in the sky. Her bangs covered her eyes, but the blue peeks from under the brown bangs. They have darkened when she mentions the fallen ones. She looked down at her sandal cover feet. She shakes her head from the sad thoughts that ran through her head at how many have probably fallen into the darkness.

"And soon they will know I am here."

She had turned herself away from the window and meet his eyes before her smile got bigger at him as she tried to change the subject. One of her hand rested above her heart. A habit she had picked up long ago because Angel's hearts is where their grace of light was held. The hummed of her grace made her feel more relaxed as the warmth was center around this area the most.

"I suggest we leave soon."

The smile dropped from her face when she went for the cross necklace. It was the holy crossed that Irish people kept with them.  An angel wearing one was really odd to see as they are ones to give them not have them. It was called the Celtic cross. It was many of the Irish people who lived in Boston wore as protection instead of the typical cross that others wore. It was weird that an angel was wearing it, but she held it closed meaning it must have been some importance to her.

"I sense something bad is coming."

She stopped as her wings closed behind her as she wanted them to fold against her back. They then evaporated behind her to be able to hide them from the humans. It made her looked more human expect the light that hummed around her from those who truly dedicate to God can see. It did not, however, hide her from the fallen angels from seeing the light. She notices that she still had Artemis her gun on her which she lightly tap with a delicate finger.

Mathias comes closer to the window, his upper body inched forward, perfectly recreating the image of a predator ready to pounce on his prey. He notices the black feather innocently lying in the front yard, moving slightly because of the wind outside. He stares at the sun, as it begins to set. The warm colors of the sky reflect on his glasses, hiding his eyes from the angel at his sides.

He's not smiling, his face strangely collected. There are a few creases between his eyebrows, an indicator that he's pondering quietly about something.

''He's been watching us.''

He focuses his attention back to her, his face finally turning away from the window they are both standing in front of. Because of their size difference, he has to lower his head if he wants to take a proper look at her. Mathias stares at the top of her head as she stares at her own feet.

''And soon, they will too.''

Anger courses his veins at the prospect of those disgusting and sinful creatures watching the holy maiden from afar. His fingers curls into tight fists at his sides, the material of his gloves creaking silently.

When she smiles at him, he feels the anger slipping away and his body relax. He smiles back at her, lights fading out of his glasses as the night comes, letting her meet his cold blue gaze with a tint of warmth.

Mathias grabs the hand resting on her chest and grasp it lightly, holding it very loosely between his long fingers. Mercy can feel the material of the glove, something soft but also akin to leather.

The priest stares solemnly into her eyes and declares, in his own boisterous and loyal way;

''There is nothing to fear, your holiness! I am your devoted shield, nothing will happen to you as long as I am here !''
He puts a hand on his chest, in a formal way, to indicate his devotion.
''Use me as you wish, I am forever loyal to you and our Lord!''

Her delicate hand slips away from his grasp, and he's ashamed of the slight disappointment he feels pooling in his guts. He wishes he could hold her hand longer.

''I suggest we leave soon.''

Mathias agree silently, nodding his head in her direction. He starts to frown when his thoughts come back to the black wings from earlier. If they already know where they've been hiding, it means the place is surrounded by now. Soon, they will begin their attack. Mathias knows they have to move fast, now that the night surrounded them of her cold and dark embrace.

The priest looks back at his protégée and notices the holy cross around her neck. He doesn't find it strange as she's one of the Lord's daughters, but he still wonders why an Irish cross.

''Something bad is coming.''

He blinks twice behind his glasses when he sees her wings evaporate from her back. He takes a step back, inhales sharply but holds his tongue. It's smart of her to hide her wings,
but a small part of him loved to gaze at them. He feels somewhat disappointed that they are now hidden. Mathias curses himself for his impure thoughts and clears his throat, looking away with an uncomfortable look on his face. He refuses to look at her, her halo only reminding him of his immorality.

''Shall we ?''

He waits for her to be ready before exiting the house, keeping her behind him to protect her with his massive body from the upcoming threats.

It did not take long before she felt the darkness consuming near them. She feared that even though they have gotten out the door and been walking for a few miles, that the demons were already upon them. Her light grey-blue eyes look over to the priest who was in front of her. She could not see what he was thinking behind his glasses, but she could see that he had at least one his dagger out. She could not see his other hand as his body block her view. She could barely see his face without straining her neck to look up.

"Where are we to go?"

She asked in a whisper, as her curiosity got the best of the tiny brunette angel. She knew that she could not fully trust him just yet. Even with her many years of being an angel, she was still such a youngling about the many other angels, which causes for questions.

"Oh."

She nodded her head before she turned her head to the side. Before any other question could be asked, Serah felt the air darken immensely. The angel of mercy glances to the side when she swears that she heard some sort of rustling in the bushes. She almost ran into the priest back when he stopped but stop herself just in time. She could not see what was in front of him, but she spotted around them a few demons had tried to surround them.

"Mmm, what a yummy snack."

A demon said licking his nonexisting lips with a long a slender tongue. His sharped jagger teeth crunch down a few time. It sends chills down Serah back. She watches the priest tell them something about unholy creatures they are. She was more focused on using what left her abilities to call upon Artemis. She knew the priest had moved in front of her. Probably because she spacing out looking down at her glowing hands.

"I really want to taste that soft angel flesh between my teeth. too bad we cannot."

Before they can speak anymore, the priest had tossed holy water at them. Some of them got hit and hissed as they tried to move back away from them. She tried to get back to focusing to summon her gun. Her glowing hands formed the hilt of her gun.

"Fucking priest. Your flesh will bring delight to us."

The demons charged at them. Two of them stayed behind, and the other three took front line. They were trying to keep the priest busy. One had managed to sneak past him but not for long.

She popped her head out from behind the priest. She noticed one the demon three demons in the front was trying sneak on the priest, but it was a mistake as a dagger lodge into its throat. She was finally able to summon her gun. It only took a few moments and only 2 demons were left. She knew that priest must have taken care of the two others somehow while she was not looking. She watches as the priest was a little busy with one the demon that was left, as the demon was dodging his attack.

The other demon though was trying to take this chance and did the same thing one the others tried to do earlier. Serah goes behind Mathias before backing up away from him and the other demon. She was trying to get the one sneaking behind them attention. The moment the demon was far enough from Mathias fight. She aimed her holy weapon at it and started to shoot it. A few bullets landed around the demon and cause a net to form around it and trapping it.

Her wings spread out from her back, as jump over to the fallen demon. She anded ontop the net with her gun pointed down to the demon. Serah did not shoot the creature right away.

"No, not yet."

She notices that Mathias was done fighting the other demon and had his holy water out and ready to toss at the fallen demon to harm it enough to kill it instantly.

"We need to ask it questions first."

"Where are we to go?"

They've been walking for an hour now, in silence, the both of them lost in their own thoughts, or maybe, simply too wary to start a conversation. They both can feel the other is on their guard, keeping an eye and an ear open for what could be hiding in the dark, under the crimson moon. Since everything around them is so eerily quiet, besides a few rustling of tree leaves, the angel's question seems to echo around them. They're making their way toward the outside of town, walking through destroyed roads and empty streets. Since Mathias purged the town from the overpopulation of vampires, they didn't encounter any creature of the dark. Yet. Mathias can see from a distance that the crows starting to surround them have too many eyes.

''On my pilgrimage, The Priest's voice is less deafening than usual, keeping his words under rushed whispers so only he and the angel can hear him I heard that close to Elm Town, there's a manor currently occupied by a Brother of the Faith, like me.''

''Oh''

''It is said that he welcomes troubled souls and help them on the right path. This Priest...'' Mathias pauses, noting the air darkening around them. They finally decided to make their move... Mathias gets his blades out, the red tint of the moon reflecting on his glasses. ''I was planning to meet him, after getting rid of all the small vermins crawling around here.''Serah can sense that the Priest isn't telling her everything, but he isn't lying.

"Mmm, what a yummy snack."

Mathias's back face his protégée, his height shadowing her completely, like a mountain hiding the sun. He can see the crows that watched them start their descent toward them, shapeshifting mid-way in more imposing forms. One of them has a head looking vaguely like a bull, with the torso of a man and the legs of an elephant. The thing looks at them with a perverse glint in its eyes, licking its ''lips'' with its long and swift tongue, and clacking its sharp teeth together in an attempt to intimidate its preys. Mathias isn't impressed by the display, but he can sense the angel shiver in fear. The Priest frowns, grinding his own teeth together in annoyance at seeing those wretched things scaring his the angel. Then, his lips forming a smile that mirrors the one on the demon's ''face''.

"I really want to taste that soft angel flesh between my teeth. Too bad we cannot."

''Speaking of crawling vermins... Do not worry, your Holiness, I will take care of them.''

Before the demons can avoid it, Mathias throws holy water at them, soaking completely the first row of demons surrounding them. The Priest doesn't waste a minute jumping at them and slash their head open with his blades. The corpses fall like rain on the ground, their massive bulk reduced to chunks and pieces. Mathias is completely covered in their blood, his hair coated in red and blood tainting his front teeth. He's still smiling, however, this disturbing smile of his never leaving his lips during the killing.

Mathias is already searching in his coat for more holy water, while the remaining demons can only stare at their fallen brethren, so easily defeated.

"Fucking priest. Your flesh will bring delight to us."

The demon's words are completely ignored by the Priest, who jump at it and slash its throat once he doused his blades with holy water. Like flies, they fall easily at his feet, even the one that tried to sneak behind his back get taken down with a swift throw of one of his blade. He's down to only one blade, but Mathias doesn't want to leave the angel's sides while there are two demons left.

One of them has the build of a large cat and is faster than the others. A lot smarter too; with its large paw, it separates Serah and Mathias from each other, and launch the Priest forward, away from his protégée.

His body hit the ground with a sickening sound, and Mathias lose his smile, his face frowning at the sound, but he doesn't let it worry him and Mathias rolls on the ground just in time to avoid the snake-like tail that tries to cut him in half with its jaw. The cat-looking demon runs at him, its own jaw opening in four directions, like a flower bud, and many tentacles come out of it to try to encircle him. The Priest bounces back on his feet and expertly throw a smoke bomb at the beast.

While it's disoriented, Mathias takes advantage of its blind spot and plunge his remaining blade in the back of its head, to avoid the tentacles at the front. Before he can take his blade back, however, something catches him by surprise and manage to trap him. Despite the main body dead, it seems the snake-like tail is still alive, acting as a second brain, and managed to trap Mathias between its coils. Mathias tries to wiggle free, but the demon is trapping both his arms. Mathias can hear his bones crack under the crushing weight of the demon's hold, before feeling both of his arms break.

The demon hiss at him in a mocking manner, its globular eyes staring into his, yellow meeting blue.

''It's the end, Priesssst. I'm going to take pleasure devouring you.''

The demon manages to catch a glimpse of something unusual in the Priest's stare before a second smoking bomb goes off.

_________

When the smoke clears out, Mathias has both of his blades on his sides and he's walking toward Serah. His stare is hidden behind his glasses, but he seems unusually serious. When he sees that Serah is alright, he sighs in apparent relief. Once he's at her sides, he smiles awkwardly at her, trying to look kind as he asks;

''I hope you are well, your Holiness ?''

That's when he notices the demon caught in a bright net at her feet and the weapon in her hand. He blinks somewhat confusedly before reaching for his bottle of holy water. He's stopped by the angel before he can throw it at the demon on the ground.

"No, not yet. We need to ask it questions first."

The demon on the ground scoff, before taunting them;

''I wouldn't mind answering your questions, your «Holiness»,''he quotes mockingly, ''but only if you let me taste your flesh.'' He then laughs like a hyena.

Before she can react to what it said, Mathias sprays the demon with holy water before cutting its tongue. Despite not having a tongue anymore, it screeches in pain.

''No need to waste your time with this wretched creature, your Holiness.''

With a swift movement, the demon's head is cut in half, killing it. Mathias turns his head toward Serah and ''smile'', his lips stretched too wide.

''If you need answers I cannot give you, I assure you The Church can answer them.''

The demon with distaste began to move what Matthias called her. She could not care less at the moment. She needed information on the whereabouts of the source of the demons. Her had clutch the dagger closer the demon throat.

"'I wouldn't mind answering your questions, your «Holiness»,''
He was mocking her. She flinches at the demon but hides her emotions as she was trained to by Michael.

'' But only if you let me taste your flesh.'' He then laughs like a loudly which made her push her feet deeper into the demon.

Before she could get a word in, she watches as the demon was spray by holy water and screaming in the pain. It's flesh burning and leaving a horrible stench in the air. Next, its tongue was cut off by Matthias and landed next to the demon who was screaming in more agony.

''No need to waste your time with this wretched creature, your Holiness.''

She sighed and remove herself from the demon and crosses her arm. Michael taught her one thing and that is how to get results. Now she could not get that answer.

"Very well."

Serah turned away as the demon was decapitated in half and fell to the side. The demon body twitches and then finally fell still. She looks over to see Matthias with a wide grin. Her whole body froze, but she quickly came back to get senses.

"If you need answers I cannot give you, I assure you The Church can answer them.''

Her hand goes to her chin, as she tilts her slightly to the side. She looked like a confused puppy, who was just told something it didn't understand.

"The Church?"

She listens to Matthias words and takes in everything he said to heart. Michael had never told her anything about this church. Then again, she left on the end of getting training to help humanity.

"I never heard of such place. My fellow angels have no utter a word to me. Nor has a father."

She smiles softly when she notices him soften when she mentions father. Serah like his softer smile then the creepy grin. He was the first human in many years that she felt comfortable with. It was strange for her, but she too could not help but smile with him.

"I will take your word for it. Lead the way, and I shall follow."

Serah holds her hand out to the priest. She wanted him to hold her hand, as it was a comfort for her when she was once human. Her humanity did not fade a bit. It was what made father love her. His daughter of patience and kindness.

The feeling of his hand in her soft warm one was nice. She smiles happily had them again, with bright sparks in stormy grey eyes. She walked along with him and said nothing after that. Her eyes were focused on the scenery and scanning for any more demons.

It was only a few minutes before she said something. "Father once told me when I first came to be. That humanity needs kindness and patience to grow."

She looks over at the many trees that have dried up, from the horror they have seen. Her other hand had gone to her necklace and tightly grasp it.

"I tend to show the same kindness and patience. I just hope that I will be shown the same."
She looks down at the cross with the name Serah etched in the back.
